Kooththu performances gather a significant amount of people from the villages.Usually an open space of a bare land is selected, preferably near a Hindu temple.This is then converted into a kooththu theatre surrounding which the audience will sit and watch the performances for 3 to 5 hours.This time duration is considered one of the reason ,the kooththu became unpopular in this fast-paced world.It is usual to see few people asleep on the bare ground.

After decades long civil war in Sri Lanka, the lifes of people in the war affected areas are slowly returning back to the routine.This man, a betel nut and leaf seller, put up his own shop in a small market and mostly seen busy with cutting the nuts into pieces, which he will later sell along with few betel leafs in a pack called "kooru".
